Biology Calculators
Free biology calculators: animal gestation due dates, genetics lab math (PCR, Punnett squares, DNA/protein quantification), and livestock management.
Biology Calculators - Animal Gestation, Lab Genetics, and Livestock Math
Biology calculators translate life-science formulas and reference data into fast, practical answers. CalculatorPod’s biology section covers three areas: animal pregnancy and gestation due-date estimation for common companion and farm animals, molecular biology and genetics lab math for classroom and bench work (dilutions, PCR, qPCR, Punnett squares, DNA/protein quantification), and livestock and agriculture management calculations.

Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate are these animal pregnancy calculators?
Each calculator uses the well-established average gestation length and typical range for its species, so the estimated due date is a reliable starting point, but actual delivery dates vary by breed, litter size, and individual animal. Always confirm timing with a veterinarian, especially as the estimated due date approaches.
Why do different species have different gestation lengths?
Gestation length scales loosely with body size and litter biology rather than a single universal rule. Rabbits (28-35 days) and swine (about 114 days) are on the short end, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, goats, and sheep fall in a similar two-to-five-month range, and cattle (about 283 days), horses (320-370 days), and llamas (330-365 days) run far longer. Each species-specific calculator uses the correct average and range.
What input do the gestation calculators need?
Just one date: when mating or breeding occurred. From that single input, each calculator computes the estimated due date, how many days into the pregnancy the animal currently is, and where that day falls on the species' gestation milestone timeline.
Do these calculators replace a veterinary pregnancy diagnosis?
No. They give a date-based estimate from average gestation length only, not a diagnosis. Palpation, ultrasound, or x-ray from a veterinarian remains the only way to confirm pregnancy, count offspring, or catch complications - use these calculators for planning, not medical decisions.
What lab and genetics calculators are available in this section?
The molecular biology group covers common bench and classroom tasks: PCR primer annealing temperature, serial dilutions, cell doubling and generation time, DNA and protein concentration from absorbance readings, DNA copy number, ligation insert:vector ratios, qPCR efficiency, DNA-to-mRNA transcription, Hardy-Weinberg allele frequencies, and monohybrid, dihybrid, and trihybrid Punnett square crosses.
Are the Punnett square calculators accurate for any cross?
Yes, for the classic Mendelian case of independently assorting genes with simple dominant/recessive inheritance. Enter each parent's genotype for one, two, or three genes and the calculator builds the full grid (2x2, 4x4, or 8x8) and computes the resulting genotype and phenotype ratios. Linked genes, incomplete dominance, and epistasis fall outside simple Mendelian ratios and aren't modeled here.
What livestock and agriculture calculators does this section include?
Herd mortality rate, cattle stocking rate (cattle per acre using AUM methodology), feed conversion ratio benchmarked by species, grain bin storage capacity, livestock fence cost estimation, and MLVSS for activated sludge wastewater process control. A pet-sitting rate calculator is also included as a market-pricing guide for animal-care businesses.
